Dear Parents and Community Members,

I know it's hard to believe, but our summer is slowly slipping away, and school is just around the corner. While all of us enjoy some time off, it is certainly exciting to think about the great things this next school year might hold. Let me take this time to share with you my enthusiasm as we edge ever closer to the opening day of the 2025-26 school year for Metcalfe County Schools.

Remember, our first day of school for students is Monday, August 25. Before that, each student will have opportunities to see the building and meet teachers and staff.  Please be on the lookout for that information. I would highly encourage each of you to download the Metcalfe County Schools app and use our website to stay abreast of the latest news and information concerning MCS.

As many of you know, we are working through recently passed legislation that will impact our operations. SB 181 deals with 2-way communication between staff and students. Other legislation codifies banning cell phones during instructional time, provides for a moment of silence to start the school day, and changes how medications can be distributed by our medical staff. Our schools will continue to provide information and instruction on these new rules as available.

Regardless, we know that we will have a year full of learning and great student experiences while striving to keep every single Hornet, both young and old, safe. With your help, the sky is the limit for students at Metcalfe County Schools. I can’t wait to see your children’s smiling faces as they continue their educational journeys.

Yours,

Joshua D. Hurt
