My name is Michelle Gillentine. I am a first grade teacher at Metcalfe County Elementary School.   I have been teaching in the Metcalfe County School system for twenty six years. Before that I worked for 4 and 1/2 years as an instructional assisant also in the Metcalfe County School System.

I attended Edmonton Elementary and graduated from Metcalfe County High School. Then I attended Western Kentucky University where I received my bachelors degree and Rank 2 in elementary education. I also attended the University of Kentucky and became certified as a Reading Recovery teacher.

My family and I live in Glasgow. I have been married for for 29 years. We have one daughter, Madison who graduated from  MCHS. I enjoy spending time with my family especially at the beach. I have loved reading since I was a child. I am delighted that I have the opportunity to work with the students at MCES.

Ways to Encourage Your Child to Read:

  •  Read to your child or with your child every day.
  • Make sure that your child reads at least 15 minutes every day.
  • Talk with your child about what happened in the book that has been read.
  • Encourage older children to read to younger siblings.
  • Set reading goals for your child. For example: read a certain number of pages, books, or chapters during a week. Reward your child with praise and a small prize.
  • Bring along a book for your child wherever you go. These are great to have when waiting at appointments.
  • Take your child to the library. Find books that interest your child. Ask the librarian for suggestions and help. Also check out the children's programs at the library.
  • Be a role model. Let your child see you reading.
