Homework Policy

5th Grade Reading Homework Policy

Please read below the 5th grade reading homework procedure for losing/not turning in homework beginning Monday, August 26.

  • Students will have homework every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday nights.  Nightly homework will consist of reading assigned pages/chapters by the teacher and completing a reading log.  (Note: If a student is absent, they still are required to complete the assigned reading and logs for that night).
  • Reading logs will be collected on Friday morning and students will be given a score of distinguished (100%), proficient (90%), apprentice (70%) or novice (60%). (Rubric is included at the bottom of this letter) Students who do not turn in a completed reading log on Friday, will sit in recess until the log is complete.  The highest score they can receive is a 60%.  If a  student chooses not complete this log on Friday during recess, they will receive a 0%

This homework policy is to help students learn responsibility, as well as to help maintain good grades. As always if you have any questions or concerns, please call me during my planning 7:55-8:45 at 432-2051 or email me at kelly.hayes@metcalfe.kyschools.us
