Research Writing

Mrs. MacKenzie Minton

mackenzie.minton@metcalfe.kyschools.us

Welcome! In order to create the best learning environment possible, classroom expectations have been developed for our students and I ask that you and your child read through them carefully together. Then, parents please complete the student information sheet and sign the last page indicating that you and your child have read and understand these policies as well as the policies outlined in the MCM Student Handbook.

Communication:

I believe that communication with parents is crucial to a child’s achievement. For the quickest response, the best way to contact me is via e-mail at mackenzie.minton@metcafle.kyschool.us.

Daily Supplies:

?Notebook or loose paper in folder

? Pencils

Classroom Procedures and Work:

The goal of this class is to master the research writing standards for 7th grade. We will do this by focusing on basic research stills, strengthening their writing, and creating an argumentative piece of writing. At the start of the class period, students are expected to be seated at their desks quietly, with their required daily supplies, ready to begin bell work. Students should have all necessary materials and homework ready for class every day.

Homework:

All assignments are on Canvas for students to access. Students will have a 3 week timeline to complete a unit’s worth of work. Students may complete that at their own pace, but all assignments for that unit must be completed at the end of the 3 week window. Grades will be applied then based on work completed.

Classroom Agreements (Rules):

The students have agreed that the following is necessary to have in a classroom for everyone to

learn:

CConversation: Listen attentively and only use appropriate language

HHelp: Raise your hand and wait to speak.

AActivity: Always follow directions the first time.

MMovement: Always keep hands and feet to yourself.

PParticipation:

SSignal: Our signal to quiet down and give your attention is the “High Five”.

By honoring these agreements, students will be CHAMPS in the classroom!

Please sign and return this information sheet to Mrs. Minton after reading the classroom expectations and the MCMS Student Handbook. Thank you!

YES, I have read the expectations of Mrs. Minton’s classroom and I understand their meaning. I also understand that the goal of these expectations is to create the best learning environment. I have read and understand the contents of the MCMS Student Handbook.
