            Classroom Policies & Procedures

Overview

This high school course is a basic introduction to Arts & Humanities. We will cover the topics of art, music, dance, and drama. My ultimate goal throughout the year is for you to gather knowledge over topics you are not familiar with, and gain an appreciation for a historical perspective of each area. Since this is a high school credit course, you will be required to maintain a passing average, in order to receive high school credit. It is important that you come to class everyday prepared to work and meet my full expectations.

Quizzes/Exams

You will take quizzes/exams  in this class. Most quizzes/exams will be given with notice. It is important that you study prior.

Projects

In each area (art, music, dance, drama), you will be required to complete a research project. Some research projects may take up to 6 weeks. Please don’t feel overwhelmed! I will have each section of these projects broken up and most work will be completed in class. All projects are worth 100 points and will be counted as a test grade. These may be completed individually or with a group.

Research

Wikipedia is NOT allowed. All sources you use must be cited in MLA format (information to come). A “Works Cited” page will be required for each project you complete.

Group Work

This class will involve several activities and projects where group work is necessary. However, I expect that when given the option, you choose your groups wisely. Not only will you receive a grade on your activity, you will also receive a grade on your group participation. If for any reason you choose to not work well with a group, you will complete it on your own.

Discussion Boards

Each week you will have a discussion board to complete. All discussion boards must be completed by Friday of each week, unless noted otherwise. You must respond with well-written responses and reply to a classmate.

Class Contract

The Class Contract assignment is my method of ensuring you know what you should expect from me, and what I expect from you.  By returning the Class Contract to me, you are acknowledging that you:

a. Understand the policies in this Syllabus.

b. Understand the expectations.

c. Understand that you will be held accountable.

This will be your first 20 points in the class! Due by Wednesday, August 30, 2017.
