Community Education Classes and Events

September 27- Make a Gift Series (Soap)

Fee-$15.00

Location- TBA 5:30-7:30pm

Instructor- Janet Bennett

** Have you ever been to a craft fair and thought “I wish I could do that” or “that would make a lovely gift”?  This “Make a Gift Series” is meant to help you with gift giving ideas. 

 SOAPMAKING (Cold Process)

Want to learn how to make your very own soap?  Learn how to safely mix lye and ‘fats’ to make your own soap right at home, using ingredients you already have on hand.

We will use LYE, LARD and COCONUT OIL with a little bit of Honey Almond Essential Oil thrown in for a wonderful, sweet scent.

Class participants will be able to take a bar of soap home with them.

 

October 13- Essential Oils- Back to School Health

Fee $10.00

Location- TBA  5:30 pm

Instructor- Whitney Mouser

** School is in full swing and so are those nasty bugs that make our families sick.  Whitney will explain how essential oils can help us stay healthy this school year.

 

 

October 18- Circuit Monogram

Fee- $15.00

Location –TBA  3:00-6:00pm

** Every southern lady loves a great monogram.  This class is designed for anyone that would like something with special a monogram that you design.  If you own a circuit machine this is a great way to experiment with heat transfer vinyl. The class will be conducted like an open house; you stop by anytime during the class.  Just bring whatever item you would like to monogram.  Additional monograms can be printed for $5.00.

Each person will supply the item of their choice for monograming.

 

 

October 27 & November 3- Make a Gift with Elaine (Knitting)

Fee- $10.00

Location- TBA  5:00pm

Instruction- Elaine Marcello

**For Beginners and/or anyone with a knowledge of knitting. Basic Washcloth will be taught.  This stitch can also be adapted, by using other yarn, for Texting Gloves, Baby Hat, and Scarf. Beginner knitters will learn how to cast on, knit the garter stitch, how to read a pattern, cast off, and how to adapt the pattern for other gifts.

This class has a small supply list.

 

 

October 29- Hunter Safety (Orange Card)

Fee- Free

Location- Metcalfe County Lake  8:00am

Instructor- Dan Wilson

** This training course includes study in Hunter Ethics, Wildlife Conservation and Identification, Field Care of Game, First Aid, and Firearm Safety. The last session of the course will include a written test and a live fire exercise. All materials including firearms and ammunition are provided at NO CHARGE.  Anyone planning to take this course must sign up online at the link below.

                  November 1- Sushi with Geneva

Fee- $10.00

Location- TBA  5:30pm
Instructor- Geneva Scroggy

** Sushi 101- if you love to eat it, learn to make it! Learn the necessary basics of ingredients, supplies, where to buy them and roll, roll and roll again. No need to bring anything but your appetite.

 

 

November 10- Burlap Painting (Christmas Door Hanger)

Fee- $15.00 (includes all supplies)

Location- TBA  5:30pm

**Check out this new trend in front door décor.  Burlap door hangers are a great way to dress up your front door and are much easier to store than a traditional wreath.  Any skill level is welcome and there will be templets available for those that would like to use them.

 

November 15- Make a Gift with Charlotte (Bath Bombs and Sugar Scrubs)

Fee-$12.00

Location- TBA  5:30pm

Instructor- Charlotte Atkins

**Everyone loves to be pampered, Bath Bombs and Sugar Scrubs would make a good gift idea for a special friend on your list.  Everyone at the class will take home samples and even a few surprise goodies.

This class has a small supply list.

 

 

December 8- Get to Know Your Community (Barn Lot Theater)

Fee- free

Location- Barn Lot Rehearsal Hall   5:15pm

**I have often wondered what goes into putting on a top quality play at Barn Lot Theater, this class will share all the secrets.  Starting from the beginning we will learn about play selection, audition process, stage and costume design, rehearsal schedules and just exactly what goes on backstage.  After the discussion we will attend the production of “Farndale Avenue Christmas Carol” at the special price of $5.00.
