2014 Metcalfe County Film Festival Participants

Metcalfe County Community Education along with Family Resource, school media specialists, South Central Bank, Sumitomo, Metcalfe County Extension Services and community members are working together to bring you and our community the opportunity to compete in the 2nd annual Metcalfe County Film Festival. This contest will feature area filmmakers, future filmmakers and their short films that will be highlighted in a culminating event on Saturday, March 7, at 6 pm in the Metcalfe County Middle School Auditorium.

Rules and Guidelines


The Metcalfe County Film Festival is a competitive film festival for Metcalfe’s young filmmakers to be held at the Metcalfe County Middle School Auditorium, Edmonton, Kentucky, on Saturday, March 7, 2015 at 6:00 pm.

Metcalfe adults ages eighteen and up may enter the adult division, and students currently enrolled in any Metcalfe County School are eligible to enter the Metcalfe County Film Festival. One student or a group no larger than 3 may submit one entry in any or all of the school-age categories. However, only one adult per entry may enter in the adult division.


The Metcalfe Film Festival will be comprised of three categories for competition – Spotlight Metcalfe (must have some connection to Metcalfe county), Videographers Choice, and PSA (Public Service Announcement) all of which can be in any genre; short film, documentary, or interview up to three (3) minutes in length. ALL films must have an original title. Age Categories: Ages 5-8, 9-12, 13-17, and 18-adult. A winner will be announced for each age division.


Spotlight Metcalfe and Videographers Choice Films may not exceed three (3) minutes in length, from beginning to end; PSA’s can be up to (1) minute in length. There is no minimum length requirement.


All entries can be submitted in the following formats: AVI, MP4, MOV, or WMV. Please write your name and total run time using a permanent marker on your entry.


Film content must comport with the general guidelines governing films rated PG-13 ( Entries must comply with FCC decency standards ( Films may not contain nudity and should be appropriate for children age thirteen (13) and older. Failure to follow these guidelines will result in disqualification of the film. All content must be the creation of student(s). The actors and persons appearing in either the films may be of any age.

Entry Fee

A $5 entry fee applies to the Adult Division only, Student divisions will be FREE.


The deadline to enter the Metcalfe County Film Festival I  Friday, February 27, 2015, 3:00 pm. The entry form, entry fee (if applicable) and film must be received by the deadline. Entries postmarked or received in the Metcalfe County Community Education Office by Friday, February 27, 2015 by 3:00 pm will be considered received by the deadline. The entry deadline will not be extended for any reason.

The Metcalfe County Film Festival Committee will review all films submitted for the competition. Those entries which, in the opinion of the committee, violate the rules regarding content will be disqualified and any film not in suggested formats will also be disqualified, unless it has been approved prior to the deadline. All decisions made by the Committee regarding disqualification for content or format will be final, not subject to appeal or request for reconsideration. Following review of all entries, the Metcalfe County Film Festival Committee will announce the creator and title of all films qualifying as Top Picks; all Top Picks will be shown during the Metcalfe County Film Festival Reception to be held at the Metcalfe County Middle School Auditorium on Saturday, March 7 at 6:00 pm. Up to twenty (20) Original Short Films may be deemed Top Picks by the Committee and shown during the film festival. During the film festival, each film creator(s) will be asked to introduce himself/herself prior to the screening of the film and also, to introduce the film by title and general description.


Separate and apart from the Committee, a team of judges will determine the overall winner of competition per age division. No member of the Committee will serve as a judge for the competition. The judges will select an overall winner in the Adult Spotlight Metcalfe Category, and a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place for each age division of all the Original Short Film Spotlight Metcalfe, Videographer’s Choice, and PSA Categories. Persons serving as judges will have extensive experience, education, and/or training in the areas of journalism, theater, performing arts, entertainment and/or media. The decision of the judges will be final, not subject to appeal or request for reconsideration.


Overall Adult Winner(s) Spotlight Metcalfe or Videographer’s Choice Film Category – GoPro Camera ($200 value)  
 Overall Individual or Group Winner Spotlight Metcalfe, Videographer’s Choice and PSA Categories (Metcalfe Students-Each age division), all expense paid school trip, 1st place trophy, $20 in Metcalfe Bucks,($10) entry fee to submit your winning film into the REEL Generation Film Festival in Glasgow, Kentucky on Friday, March 28 at 6:00 pm in the Plaza Theater.

Second Place Winner(s): $15 in Metcalfe Bucks and  2nd place plaque

Third Place winner(s)- $10 in Metcalfe Bucks and 3rd place certificate
