Conceal & Carry Firearms Class  

Instructor: Donnie Butler

Participants will learn the legal ins and outs of carrying and concealing a personal firearm. Participants will first complete a four hour instructional class with a workbook, video, lecture and exam; followed by range time (shooting instruction) that will end with an exam as well. Instruction will include: Orientation, Gun Safety, video of statutes from the Dept. of Justice, how to carry a concealed weapon, the nomenclature of a firearm, and basics of shooting.  Each person will be responsible for bringing their own firearm (pistols only, of any caliber) void of any ammunition.

“Yarning to be a Poncho!” (Crochet)

Instructor: Janet Bennett

Stay cozy on cool days ahead with this Cozy Cowl Poncho from Lionbrand Yarns. This poncho is made with super bulky yarn that makes the project work up quickly.

Bear Facts

Instructor: Steven Doby (Dept. of Ky. Fish & Wildlife)

Over the summer, numerous bear sightings have been reported and many pictures have turned up on Facebook and other social media. Come and let Steven Doby inform you on the facts about bears, why they’re here and what to do if you were to encounter one.

Drivers Education

Instructor: Doug Clemmons

This class is available for all students in Metcalfe and surrounding counties who would like a better understanding of driving rules/regulations, safety and basic care maintenance. You will have 30 hrs. instruction/classroom time, plus 6 hrs. drive time with the instructor. Upon completion of this course you will be issued a Driver’s Education certificate that can be used to possibly receive insurance discounts.

10 sessions: Mondays, Sept. 21, 28, Oct 12, 19, 26, Nov. 2, 9, 16, 23 & 30; 3 – 6 pm                         $50 (in-county)

“Just Keep Spinning…” (Wool Spinning)

Instructor: Frankie Pfile

Learn to spin wool into yarn on your own 3D printed spindle. Learn to prepare the wool, spin and ply it. Class includes spindles, wool and all of the information you need to spin your own yarn.  Class limited to 8 people

“Not your typical Oil of Olay Anymore” (Essential Oils)

Instructor: Whitney Mouser

Are you interested in learning about the oils that seems everyone is talking about? Join us for a basic class that covers exactly what an essential oil is, historical significance, and why their popularity continues to increase. Participants can also expect to learn how specific and common essential oils can support a healthy home and family.

Hunter Education Course (Orange Card)

Instructor: Dan Wilson

This training course includes study in Hunter Ethics, Wildlife Conservation and Identification, Field Care of Game, First Aid, Firearm Safety, Archery and Muzzle loading. The last session of the course will include a written test and a live fire exercise. All materials including firearms and ammunition are provided at NO CHARGE.

Instructor: Herb Sparks (Attorney at Law)

This course will familiarize you with a practical understanding of the laws of estate planning. Attorney Herb Sparks will explain how the federal estate tax system works and what to consider when doing estate planning. Topics include: federal estate and gift taxation; various estate planning techniques; proper use of trusts; life insurance as and estate planning tool; gifts; charitable transfers; intra family business and property transfers; and planning for incapacity. Students will learn the appropriate procedures relevant to drafting and interpreting will and trust documents, and will become familiar with the initial planning and preparation necessary for a comprehensive estate plan. Also discussed are techniques for drafting estate planning documents, estate administration,probate

 

 

practice, the closing of an estate, relevant gift tax laws, and the role of the probate courts in estate planning. Additionally, basic inheritance issues are explored.

How to start an Online Business

Instructor: Tessa Dubre

Have you ever wanted to sell clothes, handmade items, or various products online but weren’t quite sure how to get things going? In this online business class you will learn how to start up your own business online by creating your own online store. You will learn techniques to maintaining it more effectively while promoting your items that you are selling. You will also learn about payment options such as Paypal and how to use Paypal to ship items more economically.

 “Snazzy Stitching” Embroidery

Add beautiful and unique detail to quilts, towels, pillowcases and clothing by adding some “snazzy stitches”. Come let Bonnie show and teach you some beginning basics with embroidery including; 5 basic stitches, stamping, and how to apply to various projects.

“Paint like a Master” (Acrylic Painting)

Instructor: Chris Long (MCHS Art Teacher)

Join me Chris Long, MCHS art teacher and fine arts graduate of EKU, on a painting journey to recreate your own masterpiece. Van Gogh’s Sunflowers are the subject for our class. A fitting painting for the fall of the year with all of its golden yellows and rusty reds. We will be using acrylic paints and glazes for this project on canvas.

“KnitWits” (Knitting Class)

Instructor: Elaine Marcello)

Join us for two nights of knitting fun. Create your own set of the newly popular texting or poets gloves (See picture below). This is a beginner knitting class, no prior knitting knowledge or experience needed. Students will learn how to cast-on, knit stitch, purl stitch, ribbing pattern, cast-off, and seaming. All the basics of knitting will be taught.

“Exploring My Community” (Dry Fork Gorge Tour-Metcalfe County)

Instructor: Tez Butler

Always heard about it but not sure where it’s located or what it’s all about? Now’s your chance! Join us for a nature hike through the beautiful Dry Fork Gorge right here in Metcalfe County. Participants will learn about the history of the area, (KHLCF) Ky. Heritage Land Conservation Fund, why the area was chosen by KHLCF, explore the natural resources such as caves, springs and unusual trees, learn about the indigenous species and the potential for endemic, and the need to eliminated invasive species.

1 session: Saturday, October 24; 10-12 am                                                                                                                  

MCCE (Metcalfe County Community Education Office) Class will meet here and then proceed to Dry Fork Gorge.

“All that Jive” (Ballroom Dancing)

Instructor: Jessica Tucker

Dance like the stars! Join us for four weeks of fun-filled dancing and more if needed. Jessica will start with the Jive and will do other styles as well. This is a beginner level class and you will need a partner.

Whole Grain Hype (The Healthiest food in the world?)

Come let Heather teach you the pros and cons of the whole wheat/ whole grain hype, the best way to get your whole grains, where to purchase, what it does for your bodies, recipes, and sample foods prepared with whole grains.

“Creepy CriCut” (Pumpkin Decorating)

Instructor: Lindsey Thomas

Want to give those harvest pumpkins a makeover this year?  Be sure to bring your favorite pumpkin, two sheets of your favorite color of vinyl, and some matching ribbon to this class. We will use the Cricut to create spooky scenes, make ghoulish sayings, and to personalize.  This would be a great class for some mother/daughter, father/son time!

“Spruce it up!” (Wreath-Making)

Just in time for the holidays! Make/Create your very own evergreen wreath using cedar, pine and holly. All supplies included in the class fee. Class size limited to 8 students

Layers of Love-GAME CHANGERS (Children’s Activity Ages 5-12)

Instructors: Heather Shaw, Geneva Scroggy

Metcalfe County Community Education and Metcalfe County Extension Service will be offering an activity for children ages 5-12 on Friday, December 11 at 6 pm during the MCHS Girls Varsity game.

The activity “Layers of Love” will be just in time for the holiday season. The students will not only learn about nutrition but will have the opportunity to create a jar of layered cookie or soup ingredients to give to someone as a gift for Christmas, plus experience sharing by creating a pint-sized jar to give to an unsuspecting guest from the opposing team.

 

Upon registration, the student will receive a Metcalfe t-shirt to wear the night of the game, free admission to the game, plus one free adult ticket. The tickets will be distributed the night of the activity. Once the activity is complete, students will display their work by marching around the gym during halftime of the first game and will choose a guest to receive their pint-sized jar.
