Fitness Pals

Instructors: Erin Gilley, Marilyn Melloan, Rebecca Pennington, Katie Smith, and Jessica Tucker

Fitness with a twist? Come join us for 6 weeks of fun, fitness, friends, weight-loss, and new beginnings! What better way to work out than with a partner?  For 6 weeks, you and your partner will attend 12 exercise sessions. The partners with the best attendance, and the most weight-loss will be crowned, “FITNESS PAL CHAMPS” and receive two Subway gift cards and t-shirts!

12 sessions: Jan. 11 (intro night)5:00pm, Jan. 14, Jan. 19, Jan. 21, Jan. 25, Jan. 28, Feb. 1, Feb. 4, Feb. 8, Feb. 11, Feb. 15, and Feb. 18.; 5:00 pm the first night, after that 5:30-6:30 pm.

Walking Warriors –Community Walking Club

“Brrrr” Too cold to walk outside? Come on out this winter and join us for the Community Walking Club-“Walking Warriors”. Don’t wait until spring to shed those extra pounds, walk indoor on the MCHS gym walking track.

Conceal & Carry Firearms Class  

Instructor: Donnie Butler

Participants will learn the legal ins and outs of carrying and concealing a personal firearm. Participants will first complete a four hour instructional class with a workbook, video, lecture and exam; followed by range time (shooting instruction) that will end with an exam as well. Instruction will include: Orientation, Gun Safety, video of statutes from the Dept. of Justice, how to carry a concealed weapon, the nomenclature of a firearm, and basics of shooting.  Each person will be responsible for bringing their own firearm (pistols only, of any caliber) void of any ammunition, ammunition, holster and basic gun cleaning kit.

1 session: Saturday, January 16; 8-3 pm

Drivers Education

Instructor: Doug Clemmons

This class is available for all students in Metcalfe and surrounding counties who would like a better understanding of driving rules/regulations, safety and basic care maintenance. You will have 30 hrs. instruction/classroom time, plus 6 hrs. drive time with the instructor. Upon completion of this course you will be issued a Driver’s Education certificate that can be used to possibly receive insurance discounts.

10,000 B.C. Diet (Paleo Lifestyle Change)

Fact or Fiction: The Paleo Diet will help you lose weight.

Come join us as we explore what this diet includes and if it would be a good fit for you!

The Paleo Diet is an effort to eat like we used to back in the day…WAY back in the day.

If a caveman couldn't eat it, neither can you. This means anything we could hunt or find – meats, fish, nuts, leafy greens, regional veggies, and seeds. Sorry, the pasta, cereal, and candy will have to go!

Crocheted Cuties (Embellishments)

Instructor: Janet Bennett

If you crochet or want to learn start small and think BIG! In this class, Janet will instruct you on creating crocheted cuties such as a rabbit, duck, bear and ladybug to add detail to your bigger crochet or knitting projects such as a hat, poncho, or baby blanket! Crochet instructions will be for beginners; single crochet, half-double, double, treble magic circle and bobble stitch. Great class and great fun!

Memory Baby Blanket

Instructor: Carolyn Parnell

Put together a baby blanket that holds a special memory. Come let Carolyn walk you through the steps of a memory baby blanket made from a shirt from a special loved one or family member. The finished quilt will measure 45x36.

Supplies: 20 (9.5x9.5) squares. Need a total of 5-6 shirts of L to XL size. If S-M shirts need a total of 7-9 shirts.

Thread color of your choosing

Game Changers – “Great Art by Little Hands” (Kids Art Class)

Instructor: Jerrica Reed (MCHS Art Student)

Join us on Tuesday, February 9 during the Metcalfe/Glasgow High School Basketball game for, “Great Art by Little Hands” art class. In two hours, your child will complete their own piece of artwork! After completion, students who participated will take a stroll around the gym floor during the boy’s halftime, displaying their masterpiece to the crowd. All materials will be provided. “Paint like a Master” (Acrylic Painting)

Instructor: Chris Long (MCHS Art Teacher)

Join me Chris Long, MCHS art teacher and fine arts graduate of EKU, on a painting journey to recreate your own masterpiece. Van Gogh’s Sunflowers are the subject for our class. A fitting painting for the fall of the year with all of its golden yellows and rusty reds. We will be using acrylic paints and glazes for this project on canvas.

4 sessions: Tuesdays Feb.2, Feb.9, Feb. 16, and Feb. 23; 5:30-7 pm

Knutty Knitters (Knitting Class)

Instructor: Elaine Marcello

If you’re a nut and you would like to knit, join us for a fun-filled class of knitting. Knitter of 60 years, Ms. Elaine Marcello, will make it a class of a lifetime! She’ll easily coach you through all the steps to first complete a yarn-made dish cloth, then finish out the next two meetings with instructions on scarves and socks.

3 sessions: Feb. 15(10-12am), Feb. 22(5-6:30), and Feb. 29(3:30-5)

 

             

 

Supplies: LiLY SUGAR’N CREAM Basic Dishcloth: Lily Sugar’n Cream (Stripes: 56.7 g/2 oz; 86 m/95 yds), 21712 (Lime Stripes) 1 ball; Size 4.5 mm (U.S. 7) knitting needles or size needed to obtain gauge. Large eye blunt needle or darning needle.

Essential Oils…”Not the same Oil of Olay!”

Are you interested in learning about the oils that seems everyone is talking about? Join us for a basic class that covers exactly what an essential oil is, historical significance, and why their popularity continues to increase. Participants can also expect to learn how specific and common essential oils can support a healthy home and family.

Pinterest 101

Instructors: Charity Nunnally, Heather Shaw, and Lindsey Thomas

Pinterest is a great resource for how-to’s on handmade and upcycled projects but, for some of us, we need hands-on instruction. During each of these classes, Heather, Lindsey, and Charity will take different ideas from Pinterest and bring them to you! Materials are provided and all skill levels are welcome.

1 session - Class A (3 crafts) – Kid Pinterest (Heather Shaw)

Monday, February 22, 3-5 pm (Kids will stay afterschool and be picked up at 5pm from the Comm. Ed. room at MCES.

Sandpaper Art Shirt - Bring your child and let them be the artist! With only a few supplies, kids will be able to design and create their own t-shirt and leave with it at the end of the class. Kids will be so proud to wear their original design!

Magic Treasure Rocks - What could be more fun that making a Magic Fizzing Treasure Rock? Make your own treasure rocks and take with you!

Lavender Cloud Dough - We will be making a soothing lavender cloud dough from only 3 ingredients. Kids enjoy helping to make the dough, and the lavender will help calm them after a busy day! Cloud dough will last indefinitely if it is stored in an airtight container!

1 Session – Class B Fabric Wall Hangings - (Lindsey Thomas)

Is that pile of fabric scraps haunting you? Come to this class and learn to make beautiful and creative wall hangings from your old fabric scraps. Bring your assorted scraps, and leave this Pinterest party with a clever craft that will be an aesthetic addition to any home.

1 Session – Class C Family Photo Plaques – (Charity Nunnally)

Monday, April 18, 5-7 pm

Please join us for a fun night crafting photo plaques. These unique plaques are a new twist on displaying your favorite family photos. With endless possibilities, these inexpensive picture plaques would be great gifts, or a new way to show off your snap shot. All you need is a photo copy of a picture you would like to use, black and white or color.

“Peace of Cake” (Cake Decorating Class)

Instructor: Cheryl Reece

Participants will learn about icing color & design techniques, flower making, and stacking cakes. They will be able to apply the techniques they learn on their own little cakes and of course…eat it too!

Click a Pic (Outdoor/Iphone Photography Class)

We’ll start with the ins and outs of the Digital SLR camera and basic settings and how to adjust them to your subject. Exposure, using your histogram, metering modes, and advanced settings will also be covered in depth.

This class will also focus on using different photo techniques and tips, composition and lighting.  One afternoon (weather permitting) we’ll move our class outdoors to practice and discuss outdoor photography and how to make the most of your surroundings, no matter what they happen to be. Briefly, Susan will touch on how to make the most of your Iphones for taking pictures as well. You will get a chance to use these tips & techniques to take pictures and return them for an instructor critique and end with a finished product.

Excel-ent  Basics ( Basic Microsoft Excel Class)

Instructor: Lindsey Thomas

Join us in an interactive class on how to perform the basics of Microsoft Excel. Some basic computer skills needed for this class.  This class will be an informal setting where all of your questions will be answered.  You will get lots of hands on practice with feedback from your instructor.  By the end of the class you will be on your way to Excelling at Excel!

 “Just Keep Spinning…” (Wool Spinning)

Instructor: Frankie Pfile

Learn to spin wool into yarn on your own 3D printed spindle. Learn to prepare the wool, spin and ply it. Class includes spindles, wool and all of the information you need to spin your own yarn, how to dye it, and a pattern for fingerless mittens.  Class limited to 8 people

Basic Medicare

Instructor: Gina Gibson

Come learn the basics of Medicare. Gina will help you better understand Medicare, Medicare Advantage, supplements and drug coverage plans. If you’re wondering what plan works for your situation, if you are new to Medicare or helping a parent or spouse, this class is for you!

Little Van Goghs (Kid’s Art Class)

Do you have kids who love to draw, or paint? Let their creativity come to life! In just two hours, students will paint and take home their own unique piece of art to start their own gallery at home.

“Exploring My Community” (Dry Fork Gorge Tour-Metcalfe County)

Instructor: Tez Butler

Always heard about it but not sure where it’s located or what it’s all about? Now’s your chance! Join us for a nature hike through the beautiful Dry Fork Gorge right here in Metcalfe County. Participants will learn about the history of the area, (KHLCF) Ky. Heritage Land Conservation Fund, why the area was chosen by KHLCF, explore the natural resources such as caves, springs and unusual trees, learn about the indigenous species and the potential for endemic, and the need to eliminated invasive species.

1 session: Saturday, April 23; 10-12 am
