Metcalfe County Schools will be closed Feb. 20, 21, and 22 due to illness. These will be NTI Days #4, #5, and #6.

2019 16th District Basketball Tournament

The Metcalfe County boys basketball team will play for the 16th District Tournament Championship on Thursday, Feb. 21 at 7pm against Clinton County. Cancer Survivor McKinley Crain Returns to Basketball Court

 

 

Two years after being diagnosed with cancer, MCHS sophomore McKinley Crain returned to the basketball court as the Lady Hornets opened 16th District Tournament play on Monday, Feb. 18. McKinley scored two points for Metcalfe and grabbed one rebound. The Lady Hornets defeated Cumberland County 64-27 and will play Russell County for the championship on Friday. MCHS Students Make Blankets for Rescue House

The Metcalfe County High School 21st Century program presented the City of Edmonton with handmade blankets for the rescue house. These blankets will be given to families that have to stay at the rescue house in times of need.

MCHS Students Win at Governor's Cup

Metcalfe Beats Russell in Buzzer-Beater

This year's Metcalfe County's boys basketball team accomplished a feat no other team has been able to do since January 2008 - beat Russell County. The Hornets trailed for most of the game, but with the clock ticking down, tied the game late in the 4th quarter. With just seconds to go, Trevor Fields found Peyton Dial in the corner for a three! Metcalfe won 56-53. Earlier in the evening, the Lady Hornets earned another victory defeating Russell County 70-59 improving their record to an impressive 17-4!

This year's Metcalfe County Lady Hornets basketball team accomplished a goal not met by any other team in the past 23 years. They won the 4th Region All "A" Classic. Then they went on to win the first round in the Class "A" State Tournament defeating Holy Cross (Louisville) 58-49. Unfortunately, the Lady Hornets winning streak came to an end against Holy Cross (Covington) in the quarterfinals by a score of 47-70. Despite going up against a 6'5" forward from Holy Cross, Metcalfe's Kaylee Harbison lead the Lady Hornets with 16 points and 6 rebounds. Shawna Edwards had 8 points. Maggie O'Leary and Jackie Vrocher came off the bench to give the Lady Hornets a spark with 6 points each. Hundreds of fans made the 2+ hour drive to support the Lady Hornets, covering EKU's McBrayer Arena in a sea of maroon. The season is far from over the Lady Hornets and the Hornets with several games still on the schedule including Homecoming on February 7 and Senior Night on February 14.   

Shawna Edwards Wins Scholarship

Shawna Edwards, a senior at Metcalfe County High School, has been awarded a $1,000 scholarship from the Kentucky All "A" Classic. Shawna is a guard on the Lady Hornets basketball team, which just won the 4th Region All "A" Classic and made it to the quarterfinals of the Class "A" State Tournament.

Lady Hornets Advance in State Class "A"

The Lady Hornets advanced to the quarterfinals of the All "A" Classic State Tournament by defeating Holy Cross (Louisville) 58-49. Metcalfe (16-3) will now face Holy Cross (Covington) (17-4) on Friday, January 25 at 7:30am central time. Lady Hornets Advance to Finals of 4th Region All "A" Classic

The Metcalfe County High School Lady Hornets basketball team will play in the finals of the 4th Region All "A" Classic basketball tournament on Friday, January 18, 2019. Metcalfe defeated Monroe County 72-57 on Tuesday and Clinton County 53-41 on Monday. The Lady Hornets will face Todd County Central at 6pm at Todd County Central High School in Elkton.
