Info USDA AG Experience Opportunities

Universities all over the United States are offering FREE summer experiences in various Agricultural programs.   The only obligation the student has is to pay for the transportation to and from the university.

Please help us get the word out about this incredible "free" opportunity we just received from the USDA.  The USDA pays for everything EXCEPT transportation to and from the university.   I have attached information on how to apply, which universities are participating, and age requirements.  This application process is  based on the information the student provides.  So it would be important for any interested student to start NOW on the application process.   The most important part is getting the word out to everyone.

We also have hard copies for each university and the summer experience that university offers in the front lobby of the high school.

Our students have videotaped each university's offerings, description of Ag experience, and dates.  These videos are on our Twitter which can be found on Metcalfe County High School's webpage.

When the student selects the university and the summer experience offered at that university he/she needs to call the number we have provided on our Twitter video feed and directly speak to the person running that specific program at that university.  They will be able to better explain the particulars for that university Ag experience.

Notice the deadline for all applications is March 1.

Non-Traditional Day—Snow Day

Metcalfe County Schools will again participate in Non-Traditional Make-Up Days this school year.  Several other school districts across the state of Kentucky, have decided to pursue this academic avenue as well in order to help alleviate some of the burden that snow days can cause.    The state department of education has again approved our plan for Metcalfe County Schools allowing us to make-up ten school days using the Non-Traditional Day state guidelines as we did last year.  We learned a lot from our experience last year.  Adjustments were made to the process during the time we missed and we hope to have an even better implementation this year.

Metcalfe County High School will participate in the Non-Traditional Instruction Day as follows:

  • CANVAS LMS—This is a website that students can access through our district web site http://www.metcalfe.kyschools.us/, by clicking on the Canvas link, and logging in to their individual account.  Teachers have created lessons and assignments for students in the CANVAS website.  By using this technology, our students will be able to continue with on-going learning on days that school is dismissed.  Please work with us in helping to create a new innovative way to teach students.
