MCHS Alumna Crowned Miss Kentucky 2017 Molly Matney Crowned Miss Kentucky

Molly Matney, a 2015 graduate of Metcalfe County High School, is the new Miss Kentucky. She will compete in the Miss America pageant on September 10 in Atlantic City.

Senior Beta Students Compete at National Convention

Senior Beta Show Choir

The Metcalfe County High School Senior Beta Club was invited to compete at the at the National Beta Convention in Orlando, Florida. MCHS students qualified in three separate events: Speech, Banner, and Show Choir. Great job to all of the students for representing our district!

Junior Beta Students Win At National Convention

Metcalfe Beta Students Win at National Junior Convention

Congratulations to Metcalfe County Junior Beta Students Taryn Deckard and Brody Hurt. Taryn won 3rd place in Poetry at the National Junior Beta Convention in Olrando, Fla. Brody won 5th place in Language Arts. Taryn just completed the 8th grade at Metcalfe County Middle School, while Brody completed the 5th grade at Metcalfe County Elementary School.


Summer Camps Begin June 19

Summer Camps

The first Summer Camp will start on Monday, June 19 at Metcalfe County Elementary School. The series of Summer Camps will run for a total of five weeks, 8am-2pm each day. 

  • June 19-23
  • June 26-30
  • July 10-14
  • July 17-21
  • July 24-28

The camps are for children who just finished Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, 3rd or 4th grades in any school district. The cost of the Summer Camps is $10 per child per week, or you can sign your child up for all five weeks for just $40. The school will provide breakfast and lunch. Parents must provide transportation. You can drop your children off at MCES starting at 7:45am. Registration forms will be handed out to parents in the morning and should be returned during afternoon pickup. Metcalfe County Awarded Farm to School Grant

Metcalfe County Schools receives nearly $100,000 from the USDA Farm to School Grant Program to increase local foods in school cafeterias. Click here for the press release.

Madison Gearlds Wins GEAR UP Student of the Year Award

Madison Gearlds Gear Up Student of the Year

Madison Gearlds is Metcalfe County's GEAR UP Student of the Year 2017. She received her award at a special breakfast event at the Institute for a College-Going Commonwealth conference in Bowling Green. Tim Brown Receives GEAR UP Leadership Award

Tim Brown Named Gear Up Family Leader of the Year

Metcalfe County Board of Education Vice Chairman Tim Brown received the 2016-17 GEAR UP KY Family Leadership Award. President of the Council on Postsecondary Education Bob King presented Brown with the award. Brown was recognized for his many years of volunteering with the Metcalfe County Schools music/marching band program. 


Students Win Awards at KY 4-H State Dairy Judging Contest

State 4-H Dairy Judging

Congratulations to the Metccalfe County 4-H Dairy Judging Team: Anna Judd, Gracie Tucker, Tyler London, and Brilee Tucker. The team placed 2nd Overall in the Senior Division of the KY 4-H State Dairy Judging Contest in June. The team also won 3rd in Placings and 3rd in Reasons. Individual awards went to:

Tyler London:  

  • 15th Overall Individual
  • 12th Individual Placings
  • 17th Individual Reasons

Brilee Tucker:

  • 8th Overall Individual
  • 15th Individual Placings
  • 8th Individual Reasons

 

 


MCHS Students Win $500 Grant from Sumitomo

Sumitomo Grant Winners

A group of MCHS students received a $500 Earth Day Learning Grant sponsored by Sumitomo Electric Wiring Systems, Inc. The students used the funds to start a recycling program at the high school. They designed and built several recycling bins and placed them throughout MCHS for students to start recycling plastic bottles and aluminum cans. Mrs. Kelly Shaw helped the students organize the project. Students shown are: Matthew Rigsby, Russel Gibson, Jackson Romines, Tyler Coomer, Justin Turner, Zachary England, Lacey Trumbo, Sammy Harper, and Tosha Coe.
